Food Fight!

They had been dating six months. The rare dinner in a restaurant was a celebration of the six month anniversary.

After salads and during the main course things took a wrong turn. While discussing their former lives, a lie became clear and soon was a big problem.

She quietly reached for her spoon, shoveled a large spoonful of her mashed potatoes, and threw the potatoes at his face.

In retaliation, he scooped up his green beans with his hand and threw them at her.

The waiter and the manager were at the table by then, asking them to leave.

The relationship was over. Dishonesty was not allowed.

  1. pretty much the best policy...you leave open the door a crack and its all down hill from there..

  2. Oh good she found out before it was too late....good for her in throwing food at him. My exhusband was a pathilogical liar and living with someone that lies more often then not for 18 years leaves me wishing I would have had the guts or foresight to have thrown food at him and walked away. Happy weekend to you and yours. XX

  4. Good that it ended and better that it was with throwing mashed potatos and green beans than throwing knives.

  5. Better to find out early than on the honeymoon!

  6. We had a case in our law office a year ago where large uncooked baking potato was thrown at close range at someone's face.... this ended up badly as you can imagine, so thankfully it was only mashed potatos and green beans in this case and walking away from future problems! xoxo

  7. I would have left without the food fight. I can only imagine the internal and external furor.

  8. But, what a sad waste of mashed potatoes!

  9. Well that's one way to end a relationship!

  10. I'm just glad they weren't tossing steak knives!

Better to find out sooner rather than later as lies are very hard to untangle.

Best to find out early they had different tastes! LOL

  12. I thought this was going to end up with kissing with mashed potatoes all over them. That's too bad.

  13. wow - I had a food fight once in 8 grade but you did have a better reason. Mine was just dessert.

  14. Oh dear..... I hate this waste of food and using food to fight with.
I would have to leave a relationship like that.

  15. Better than potatoes and green beans at the wedding dinner...

  16. I was thinking the same as Mama Zen!

No room for lies in a relationship.

    Cheers,

  21. I can only imagine this was a good thing, despite the setting.

I once had a food fight with my four year old son. He started it. We enjoyed it. My wife didn't.

  26. Oh my, I cringe at public displays like that - eeek! My Ex once UPTURNED the entire table, food and all, in a restaurant - I was mortified. 'Course, that's why he became the "Ex"..!

  27. Hi, Technobabe. I knew a couple like this. Sadly, they ended up getting married...and then they had a nasty divorce. It's good the couple in this scenario knew that the relationship was over.

  28. Childish behaviour, throwing food in a restaurant. The lie was not the only problem they had. Good job it was over at that time.

  29. Whoa! That must have been some whopper of a lie!
As much as I might have felt like throwing the food in his face, (and mind you, I would have felt like that whether I was the one lied to, or if I was the one called out in a lie! hee-hee), I don't know if I'd have the nerve to throw food in a restaurant. I'm more of a private nut rather than a public nut.
    All the best,
    Eileen

  31. Waiting along with others to learn if this was a true story from your past. I can say with certainty that if you ever threw food at someone in public, you had a very good reason, which I support completely.

  32. I've never thrown food at anybody. But I've damn sure wanted to a few times. If that was you doing the throwing, then good for you! Better to toss a few potatoes than endure a dishonest relationship.

  33. Heh, heh. I like this.

Along similar lines, at least a little, on one of our first dates, my (Italian) wife punched me in the nose. We were sitting at a cozy table, she was telling me a story and got, shall we say, a bit excited? Lost track of her sense of personal space?

In her case, the stereotype is absolutely true.

  34. How in the world did I miss this one?
    Food fight, for sure!

  35. The mashed potato was lying too! It's mashed cauliflower in disguise!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wow, that's cool! Really! That would be SO cathartic!

  37. I love this and agree 100% with the honesty policy. Lie to me and it's over.
