According to the last census numbers, the population in our little town is just under 1100.I told you it is a little bitty teensy weensy town.
Several times a year there are community events. And since it is a small population, almost everybody here participates unless someone has to be away on business.
We are setting up tables in our front yard and piling on items to sell. Saturday is Community Yard Sale Day.
We might not make enough to get a steak dinner but we will meet our fellow towners.
That IS a small town. I would love it!

ReplyDeleteYard sale, huh? I'm planning our annual myself at the moment. Pop. 1100? That is tiny, at least, compared to what I'm used to. There were 1000 people in my HS graduating class.
ReplyDeleteGary has a point, too, heh, heh. I used to be a devoted yard sale shopper, now I'm a devoted yard sale haver.
nice...that will be a lot of fun...we did it last week and met some pretty cool people...have fun with it...

I have not lived in such a small town, so I don't know what it's like, but if I had a neighbor like you, it would be lovely! There are real benefits to living is a small town.
ReplyDeleteThe little village where I live used to have a population around 900 but that was back in the 50s and we've shrunk a bit since then to about 750 population now I think.
ReplyDeleteNext weekend, my daughter informed me yesterday, is our community yard sale. Should be interesting. One of our neighbors down the street cooks up a great big batch of hot sausages along with green peppers and onions and sells them at her yard sale. She suggested I bake a bunch of cookies and bag them up but when I did that about 2 years ago, no one was interested in cookies and I had slaves over them in scorching heat/humidity the day before so will think carefully about whether I do that or not. Hope you at least make enough to buy a steak dinner as a treat for your efforts!
Your town sounds like one big neighborhood and the community garage sale sound like a great way to get to know your neighbors.

ReplyDeleteI actually lived in a town growing up with a population of 109! The whole county only had 7000 people.

ReplyDeleteWe have had a few yard sales already, and we've donated a ton of stuff already, and I still feel like we haven't made a dent yet! Ugh! We have thirty years accumulation to go through of our own, and then nineteen years of my parents accumulation that was left behind (this is the house I grew up in), and then so much stuff from my grandparents that ended up in our attic too!
It's been fun at times sorting through things, and sad, and bittersweet, and very, very tiring, both emotionally and physically.

We live in the boonies, but our nearest small town four miles away only has about 300 people..and I know most of them:)
