The new library will be one block from where we live. Since we are regulars at the library, this is really cool. The top picture shows the sign on the corner letting everyone know this is the site for the new library. The day after I took the picture this week there were lots of men working and trucks and people on cell phones. The work has truly begun. The second picture is the architects rendering of what the new library will look like after it is built. Supposedly the library will be completed the end of December. Since we live so close, I will be taking photos regularly for a collage later.

ReplyDeleteMs.A, the old library building is for sale. It is a sturdy, strong building with brick outside and antique windows and lovely wood inside.
I love libraries. I like your old one, but golly, look at the pretty new one!

ReplyDeleteYes, you are fortunate to have a new library rather than losing the old one. Our library hours have been cut mercilessly to save money, but I guess it's because now I can go to the library virtually and order e-books on my laptop!

ReplyDeleteThe current library is such a pretty, welcoming looking place. It almost seems a shame that it's being replaced. But I can't think of a better use for "bigger is better" than a library. Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteIt's great to maintain a public library to maintain the community spirit. E-books are a great idea, but I would hate to see technology separate people. It is also a community center in many towns.
ReplyDeleteI thought the original library is a beautiful looking building. But the new one looks like it will be really beautiful, too. It's awesome to have it close by and it will be fun to watch it evolving.

ReplyDeleteI had an odd thought recently... with the demise of book stores and the rise of e-books, Kindles and such, I am wondering what libraries will be like 50 - 100 years from now? Will they even exist? Will they remain free? For some reason I am not looking forward to the change.
ReplyDeleteI do love libraries. My hometown's library was built in the 1700's. I can still smell the old book smell. It had wide heart pine floors and wood paneling. It is still there and a new library was built a block or so away.
