Sundays In My City

This is the current library.

The new library will be one block from where we live. Since we are regulars at the library, this is really cool. The top picture shows the sign on the corner letting everyone know this is the site for the new library. The day after I took the picture this week there were lots of men working and trucks and people on cell phones. The work has truly begun. The second picture is the architects rendering of what the new library will look like after it is built. Supposedly the library will be completed the end of December. Since we live so close, I will be taking photos regularly for a collage later.

They razed the other building? It didn't look to be in horrific shape?

Enjoy the new library!

Cinner, we can walk out our front door and walk to the street and look left and see the work going on for the new library.

Ms.A, the old library building is for sale. It is a sturdy, strong building with brick outside and antique windows and lovely wood inside.

I love libraries. I like your old one, but golly, look at the pretty new one!

That is very cool that the new library will be so close to you. The rendering shows a beautiful building.

oo very cool...we like the library...i am glad to see the investment in it as there have been rumors of losing libraries...

Yes, you are fortunate to have a new library rather than losing the old one. Our library hours have been cut mercilessly to save money, but I guess it's because now I can go to the library virtually and order e-books on my laptop!

Gary, the new one is supposed to be ready the end of this year. Yay.

Tara, there were lots of people helping collect the funds for the new library.

Brian, the library situation was one of the things that attracted us to this little town.

DJan, we sure know how fortunate we are to have the town behind the new library.

I love it! The new library looks so inviting. It will be interesting to see how it is build.

I would love having a library I could walk to. You have picked a great little town for your new home.

That's so uplifting to read, over here, with all the cut backs, our libraries are falling to closures every day (on the mainland, thank fully not so on the isle - yet).

Oh that is wonderful! They did the same thing here..although our old building was not nearly as nice as yours. Our new one is only a couple blocks away..and I loooove that! Hugs, Sarah

The current library is such a pretty, welcoming looking place. It almost seems a shame that it's being replaced. But I can't think of a better use for "bigger is better" than a library. Enjoy!

We recently got a new library and everybody is crazy about it! It's such a wonderful atmosphere for the whole family. I am excited for you and your town!

I always love when they are able to renovate old buildings, but it sounds like they are just building a completely new one?

I am so jealous. We are desperate for a new library here.

Our library is five miles away -- a drive every weekend. It would be nice to walk to the library.

It's great to maintain a public library to maintain the community spirit. E-books are a great idea, but I would hate to see technology separate people. It is also a community center in many towns.

I thought the original library is a beautiful looking building. But the new one looks like it will be really beautiful, too. It's awesome to have it close by and it will be fun to watch it evolving.

I love a good library! It's nice that you get a whole new one close to you. Our library got renovated and we couldn't use it for months.

P.S. I linked you up.

That is quite a handsome building. How exciting to watch its evolution. I can walk to my library so I know first hand how much you will love that feature. Let us know what becomes of the old library. It would be a shame to tear it down.

The new library will be great & looks not much bigger than the old one. December is just around the corner!

How fun to have a library right across from you!

I had an odd thought recently... with the demise of book stores and the rise of e-books, Kindles and such, I am wondering what libraries will be like 50 - 100 years from now? Will they even exist? Will they remain free? For some reason I am not looking forward to the change.

I do love libraries. My hometown's library was built in the 1700's. I can still smell the old book smell. It had wide heart pine floors and wood paneling. It is still there and a new library was built a block or so away.
