Most families with pets don't actually think of the pet as an animal, it is part of the family. A loved one. If the house caught on fire it would be a tough quick-thinking decision whether to run back and save the wife or the dog. Of course, I am seeing this from the wife's perspective. Perhaps there are women out there who prefer the dog. I'm just not one of them.
I've been treated like a dog in past relationships, but in this marriage I am top dog so to speak (if there were a pet). Of course there is no pet to compete with but I am pretty sure that hubby would run back in and get me first.
I've had acquaintances who talked to their dogs nicer than they talked to their spouse. "Oh, sweety, you have such a cute butt". "Come here and give me a big wet kiss". In a sing-song voice of seduction. If I happened to be looking in another direction, I would have thought they were talking to their spouse. I would end up an evening with these people thinking why couldn't they have as much fun and show as much attention to their spouse.
These have been my kind of examples in life. I try to learn from all my experiences.
In actuality, I can't have a dog right now and I do love them very much. So does hubby. I love to see photos of people's pets and I get to share the fun and adventures when I read other blogs, sort of an aunt.

Techno Babe, I better be top dog! Actually he is also concerned about my safety with my cataplexy, I don't think I need to worry. I love the photo. very appropriate. take care
Oops...I would probably rescue the pet and end up dying in the process!
Sx
all my pups are top dogs in the house. as is hubby and the bean. mind you, the pups do sometimes get that extra cuddle though. you see, they don't argue with me, heee heee heeee
.... oh speaking about pets, I have a cat, two ferrets and a tarantula. Never spoke to the spider.
Rarely spoke to the cat too.
And always say "NO!!!!" to the naughty pair of ferrets.
There is love between us, but no need to be said.
Oh, that picture is Awesome!
It could be my hubby and our golden!
Oh, how he loves our golden, Jake!
But, it really is quite sad that some people show much more affection to their pets than they do their spouses.
I give my dog and cat lots of love but my hubby gets equal the amount and vise versa.
Oh, I'm honored that you printed out my poem Discovery and posted it on your wall...that is awesome!
Take care and have a great day!
Margie:)
I've always questioned this same thing when around it. I like pets too but never would I treat them better than humans, especially my spouse or children.
Since our dog is a velcro dog, meaning he doesn't leave your side, I think I'd be a 2fer.
cute post. i imagine he would run back in to get you...
I have two dogs! I love my pets!
BTW, you are the only one who tried to guess at where the story was going. You were wrong:)
Thought provoking... I'm going to have to re-evaluate how I talk to our two cats versus my wife la Grenouille... I do tend to smother the kitties with affection; because they seem to love it so much... but shucks, so does my human sweetheart...
Just wanted to thank you too for all your visits and comments... you are getting to be a regular... I'm happy then if you are finding some things you enjoy at the Magic Lantern...
:-D
I was once married to a man who treated his dog far better than his wife - and I am an ardent dog-lover.
I used to torment myself wondering which of my children I would save if they were all drowning. Thankfully, this scenario never happened because I would never have been able to decide.
