Brownies Don't Have To Be Square
Maybe it is my personality or just defiance, but when I hear "brownie squares" it hits a nerve. I like brownies and we make them here sometimes but they do not have to be square. Personally, I think it is a square idea to insist brownies are better when cut into squares.
Instead of using a square pan to cook brownies, I use a round pan. Yes, ROUND. Untraditional, yes?
Cut out a heart in the center of the brownies that have been baked in a round baking dish. Put the heart brownie big enough for two onto a serving plate. Splash chocolate around the brownies and add a dollup of vanilla ice cream. A romantic dessert for two for any occasion. We don't have ice cream on our brownie in the photo and we have a pot of Christmas tea that accompanied the delicious brownies. What do you think the red thing on top of the brownie is? Hmmmm.
What to do with the rest of the cooked brownie: Small triangle pieces of brownies are perfect on top of a dessert dish of ice cream with a piece of fruit and nuts added.
See what I mean? Time to think outside the box, er, square.

Nothing square about those brownies!
And thinking outside the box -
I'm sure that is second nature to you!
You are an original!
Love the picture, TechnoBabe!
Looks delicious and very creative.
.......:-)Hugs
Looks great, there are no rules when it comes to brownies. take care...
Anne, your Christmas hat pic is cool.
Thanks for the kind words.
Bernie, The brownie was indeed delicious.
Cinner, thank goodness we can abandon all mention of rules when it comes to food!
Betty, The brownie had some chocolate zipped across the plate and the brownie and then the ice cream was added later. Yum.
hot DAWG that looks tasty :)
break the mold techno...square is not the only way...and i will enjoy them no matter what their shape...
How does that song go? "Square shaped, or pear shaped, these brownies don't lose their taste", or "A brownie by any other shape never loses it's flavor"? Or was that diamonds and roses?
I've made brownies in all sorts of shaped pans (even a heart shaped one, and a Darth Vader one!)
Whatever floats our boats!
Enjoy!
All the best,
Eileen
Gary, every time you post about the delicious cookies and goodies you and your missus bake, you make me hungry for them.
Brian, yes let's break the mold for sure. There are so many different ways to do things.
Eileen, I made a spice cake last week and I like your suggestion of brownies in specialty shape cake pans. Which as you know, I can check out at our library. I saw all the different cake pans there last week.
I like it. I'll have to remember that. My wife loves brownies, though she's also fond of the edges. Maybe there's a heart-shaped pan out there...
For me, it's not the shape of the brownie but the heft. Personally, I think an average brownie should weigh far more than it looks like it will. The closer it is to pure fudge, the better.
Not everyone agrees, but there it is.
Oh I agree! It should be heavy and dark, and your heart brownie looks like it would weigh a LOT, even without the yummy fudge dripped across it. You are definitely an original...
You mean you can do that?? It reminds me of years ago when a boyfriend put cream cheese and jelly (my favorite sandwich when growing up) on a bagel (instead of bread). I said the same thing - "You mean you can do that?" LOL!! :-)
I've never been that keen on the square, I love curves. :D
Mind you, I'd eat a brownie whatever shape it is!
Round brownies? It's quite common here.
The only square ones I can find are in Kenny Roger's :)
I LOVE people who think outside the box!
As someone, that also likes stepping outside of the box, I do things like this all the time. So fun! Is the red thing a cherry or strawberry? Looks delicious!
Happy weekend! XX
There is just something "right" about a heart-shaped brownie.
I love the heart shaped brownie.
I live and work with teens. I would never trust a brownie that came from them. Three are stories....
Aww! The heart-shaped brownie is awesome! Being original is the way to go, I do believe :)
Sounds pretty perfect to me!
looks yummy, and now that i enlarged it, i see.
swak!
they taste as good whatever shape they come in.
Brilliant idea! I love it.
I so 'heart' your beautiful brownie. My brain stays outside the box...ya just never know around me!!!
The red on the brownie??? Geese Louise I can't tell!
God bless ya and have a stupendous weekend sweetie!!!
You rebel, you.
I don't care what shape my brownies have. I just like brownies.
What to do with the rest of the brownies??? Um, you mean the cook doesn't get to eat them all herself. Oophs :-)
xo jj
And that leaves all the great edges for a snack later. (Are there people who call brownies "brownie squares"?)
Strawberry?
I'll take your wonderful brownie in any shape or form. Why must a brownie be square? To be different from the cupcakes?
I don't care what shape they're in, I LOVES me some brownies. My number on favorite treat. (a very close second is chocolate cake w/ choc. frosting)
I like 'em square, heart-shaped, circles, stars...it's all good.
But, add that vanilla ice cream and, yeah, that is downright romantic. (the teapot is pretty too)
Happy Weekend!
Hugs,
Lola
I certainly don't care what their shape is if someone else baked them for me.
Is the red object a piece of candy?
Thanks for stopping by to check on us. No big earthquakes lately in New Zealand...
I like my brownies a bit overdone--so they are crunchy. Strangely enough, we don't have brownies very often--cake is this thing around here...
I love brownies and have never questioned their shape - until now! I shall be trying round, heart and possibly crescent moon shaped brownies soon. Great idea!
This is a lovely idea. Very romantic. And the way you prepared them makes me want to eat brownies right now.
Cheers,
Casey
brownies look so yummy...
Love the way you present...
Have a lovely weekend!

Oh yum, that looks delicious! And such a creative way to serve it.. and romantic, too. And of course, it's chocolate so that makes it perfect. I love how you sealed it with a kiss.
Mmmmh! Yes, yum.

Nuts in May
Out of the box, yea! Send me a slice... OR portion?!
Very creative!
I make brownies in whatever pan suits me at the moment. They absolutely do not have to be square. I love them with fresh raspberries on top and strewn around them - there is something about raspberries and chocolate that is divine.
I'm all for anything UN-square!
THAT is such a great idea esp. since it means MORE outside part right?
Now that is a really interesting issue that you have. I laughed!
What? You're not going to tell us what that red thing is???
I cannot for the life of me figure out what that is on top of the brownie! Looks kinda like a big smushed maraschino cherry. Or lips. It kinds looks like lips. Cherry lips?
In any case, that heart-shaped brownie is awesome.
Looks delicious! Cooking and baking should always be creative if they are going to be any fun at all. Good for you!
Is that a strawberry?
You little romantic, you!
Brownies, in any shape, are one of my favorite things in the world. And I most enjoy them absolutely plain - no nuts, no ice cream, no frosting, just good ol' plain brownies!
i love that !
you're right, square is boring !!! and kind of wrong :)
A great looking Brownie.
My wife makes a cracking Brownie - a well-fed man is a happy man! :-)
The red thing on top of the brownie is a pin with red rhinestones. The pin is the shape of lips, like a luuuv kiss. Hubby likes that part.
Cute brownies! I like them however I can get them!!
As long as they're good and you're enjoying them, who cares what shape they have!
Well, whatever damn shape, now I need a brownie. STAT!
Nice. I will have to do that. It looks like a great way to share dessert. Who needs squares when hearts will do?
Brownies shaped like pizza is a tasty concept!!
