Silly Mouse

I am so easily amused. At 5 AM I clicked my link to the eagles nest. And the nest was empty, the adult eagles must have been out on an early morning excursion.

There was, however, a visitor at their nest. A mouse was scurrying around, from one side of the six foot across nest to the other side, pausing here and there to move a small piece of something, or check something out.

The eagles site I speak of is the Decorah Eagles cam. Hubby and I watched this past February as eggs were laid and kept watching so we witnessed hatching in April. So we were hooked. I would check in every day and watch the three eaglets change and grow and then the fledges in June were awesome.

As I watched the little mouse playing in the empty eagles nest, it brought back memories of the exciting events in the lives of the adult eagles and their three eaglets. In July one of the eaglets was banded and a transmitter attached. There is a map on the eagle site showing how far the eaglet is already traveling. Go, fly, wondrous creatures. Find mates and be as competent as your parents were to you.

The mouse moved too quickly for me to capture a photo on my computer, so I am using this photo I found on google that looks pretty close to the one in the nest.

Brian, we watch animal cams all over too. To be so close and watch them in their natural habitats is a learning experience.

Gary, yep, a mouse. Scurrying all over.

Hope that mouse knew the risk he was taking up there in that nest! Aren't those cams wonderful?

That is darling, and I'm glad the eagles have taken off an adventure!

I think there are a couple of camera sites around -maybe one over near to Howard Dam in the next county over from where I live and perhaps one at the capitol building somewhere in Harrisburg that watch eagles or some other really large bird of prey all the time. I've never really gotten into bird watching of any kind, much less using the camera-fed websites but I can understand how you could do that and get really hooked on the watching of those birds.

Do you think the mouse stayed for dinner? Or should I say, stayed and became dinner?
the internet is cool

Compared to the many trashy 'reality shows' that they have on TV these days, I think the Eagle Cam is so much more real than any of those reality shows can ever hope to be!

I hope the eaglets have a wonderful life ahead as well :)

Well that silly critter might have made for an easy snack. Those cams are endlessly amusing. I try not to watch as I know I'll get hooked.

How enchanting this is! You should write a children's story about the mouse in the eagle's nest, Babe. It would be lovely.

Joe, watching the mouse where I watched months of eagle life was a trip.

Gail, that was exactly what it looked like.

DJan, yes they are truly amazing.

blueviolet, I didn't know if the eaglets would hang around or find their own place. Now I know.

Mama Zen, the mouse was a nervous mervis.

Jeni, I never knew I would so love bird watching like I do.

Ms.A, yes Owl Box, I have seen it too.

lisleman, who knows, the mouse is not there now.

Arnab, I don't watch any TV and I am so glad I don't. Watching the eagles has been a thrill I can tell you.

Hilary, I use a second browser for the eagle cam and switch back and forth or make room on the screen for two browsers so I don't miss anything.

heartinsanfrancisco, that is a great suggestion. Hmmmm. That is me thinking.

I love watching the creatures that live outside. We actually get a ton of skunks here. If you're watching them and they aren't spraying you or your dog, they can be interesting to watch.

It is easy to get hooked on those web cams. Have you looked at the one about a watering hole in Africa? I think it is Africam.

I clicked on it this morning and a big old ant kept crawling back and forth over the lens. I thought that was pretty cool and got a big kick out of it. It must be really amazing to see an actual eagle laying eggs!

Maybe he is looking for lost relatives, last see heading this way?

Hi Techno, I hope the hawk from your earlier post isn't anywhere near the eagle's nest for that mouse could be in trouble ;-)

We had an Eagle-cam last year that we watched. IT was pretty amazing (and addicting) to watch.

Hope you and James are doing good. Happy Labor Day!
