Which way is the bus below traveling?
To the left or to the right?
Can't make up your mind?
Look carefully at the picture again.
Still don't know?
Preschoolers all over the United States were shown this picture and asked the same question. 90% of the preschoolers gave this answer: "The bus is traveling to the left."
When asked "Why do you think the bus is traveling to the left?" they answered:
"Because you can't see the door to get on the bus."
Someone sent this to me, isn't this great?

Very astute observation by those little tykes.
Kids are so clever!! I looked and looked and looked and have NO IDEA!!
They beat me! :)
So cute!
I guess I am officially dumber than a pre-schooler!
(We have a quiz show over here called "Are you dumber than a 10 year old"...)
Superb post. Succinct and totally absorbing - the way pre-schools always are.
.... hurm. If they asked me, I would not be able to answer. Mainly because I didn't go to school by bus :)
I decided it wasn't any different on either side but missed the obvious! What a great test, and I didn't get it, but of course they are right, the door is on the other side!!! Smart kids.
The sad thing is that I'm not too surprised that a pre-schooler is smarter than I am. I learned that when I taught pre-cshool many years ago.
Oh, that's brilliant! It's been too long since I boarded a school bus.
Hooray! I think like a preschooler too! I guessed to the left before I read the post conclusion! xoxo
wow amazing it's cool i still can't decide which way the bus is going.. I think left not sure .. cool one
I wonder if my kindergarteners would get that!
OMG! How logical! My answer was going to be: It isn't traveling at all.
Wow. That's fascinating. I didn't even think about the door. I got stuck trying to decode the thick line on the bottom. Thanks, as always, for making me see things in a new way.
Kids are a lot smarter than we think!
TB,
I can't see the picture. Guess it's on my end, cause everyone else seems to be able to see it. Heading over to IE to see if that works.
I can't see the picture either! Something is wrong with Blogger!! grr. I'll come back later and see if i can see it.
I was clueless.
The ability to visualize that which is not there and include it in the image before them.
Do these same charming kids grow up to be conspiracy theorists? Believe what you think, not that which is proven to be true. (Sorry, my bus took a detour!)
What about in countries where we drive on the left, by that logic the bus would be traveling to the right! ;)
I can see it now! That is very interesting! It's amazing how kids can see some things clearer than us adults.
Preschoolers are smarter than adults!
I didn't even think of that.
This is great!
Loved it!
Kids are so smart!
Sweet dreams my friend.
Paying you a late night visit tonight.
First chance to get by to visit, a very busy day today.
Margie :)x
okay fine......
I said "Right" but just guessing. Here's another "guess": It's back to PRE-SCHOOL for this blogger!
PEACE!
dang.... am I old enough to claim dementia?
You know I thought left, but not because of the missing door. Kids are friggin' so much smarter than I am.
I said left, too. I love that my instincts are in line with those of 90% of preschoolers.
We were all just as smart once. Sigh.
Yes, they outdid me too!
So, very, very smart...What a fun post!
I love the way kids think. They are very smart!
forget the "are you smarter than a 5th grader" show since i just failed preschool right here on your blog :)
preschoolers are definitely smarter than me.... I had NO clue
Little ones are so much smarter than we give them credit for sometimes!!
Those are some smart kids! I thought it was traveling to the left but I couldn't tell you why.
Very interesting.
xo
This is awesome! Does it have something to do with age? I am going to show it to my kids!
