Neighbors Sharing The Bounty

This is two baskets of fresh picked veggies. A lady we met at the local grocery store mentioned rutabagas to us one day and she was telling us that the locals were not familiar with rutabagas. We told her we used to eat them often until we moved here. So she offered to share some of her garden veggies with us. The wonderful food in this picture is the third time she has brought fresh veggies to us.

This week's care package includes three fresh tomatoes, green and red peppers, a large cabbage, six ears corn, two carrots, four rutabagas, and about ten turnips.

Each time she gives us baskets of veggies, I wash the baskets and write a thank you note, clip the note to the basket and return the baskets to our veggie benefactor. It was a couple weeks till we knew her name. Let me hear a big cheer for Sherry.

Always nice to have friends with great gardens, isn't it? We set up a table in the narthex at our church where folks with a bit of excess vegetables can bring them and share with others. People can just take what they like for free or they can drop a free will donation into a jar designating there which fund they want the money to go to. Some Sundays the table is filled but yesterday there was nothing there. I had planned to take some of the yellow squash that's doing quite well in my garden this year but was in a bit of a frenzy when I left the house that I walked off and forgot to take the squash. So today, I'm going to take a couple of them and drop them off to a couple folks who I know like yellow squash. I love it but can't eat it every single day either, ya know! LOL Have a great week ahead and hope you keep receiving lots more of those fresh veggies!

What a beautiful bounty of veggies. Yay for Sherry. I have to admit I wouldn't know what to do with the rutabagas.

Wow! I think I am in love with Sherry! Could she make a quick stop over to my house? You are so fortunate to have those veggies filled with all kinds of nutrition, not to mention the nutritious affection tucked inside, too. :-)

It's great to have fabulous neighbours. It's Ramadan at the moment which means that every evening someone is knocking on the door with a plate filled with lovely food. Fab. :)

I guess like attracts like, she recognises a kindred spirit! What a fab and generous gift to bring, all grown and given with love.

The beauty of planting a vegetable garden is that it is impossible not to plant too much. So there is always plenty to share. Sherry is probably just as thrilled that you're willing to take veggies from her as you are to receive them.

Sherry is the Veggie Whisperer. I suspect you'll be inviting her over for stew, this autumn.
