Rip Off Game Was Not Won By The Rippers

In January I enjoyed plowing through online companies selling various foods. I spent more time than usual in my search because it was a late birthday present for my son who lives in Hawaii. After a few hours I landed on an article at Hawaii Magazine about ordering Hawaiian food online. The magazine had a link to the company from hell: Hawaiian Food Online.

I place my order online. The next day FED EX emailed me that my order was canceled and I was to contact the company I placed the order with the previous day. The owner of the company assured me my money would be refunded.

I would caution everyone about buying anything from this company. After four months of leaving phone messages and sending emails, they finally responded to my hubby after he joined Facebook and left a negative comment on their Facebook wall. And then they acted like they had no idea I was having a problem with them. Whew.

I received a check in the mail from the company and it is in my bank.

Thank you for all the encouraging comments and for emailing the company referencing our order number. I appreciate your help.

From now on I will just order summer sausage from Hickory Farms!

Well, glad that worked out in the end, but that's not why I was stopping by today. I came across this poem which reminded me so much of you I had to pass it on...

The Blue Robe

How joyful to be together, alone
as when we first were joined
in our little house by the river
long ago, except now we know

each other, as we did not then;
and now instead of two stories fumbling
to meet, we belong to one story
that the two, joining, made. And now

we touch each other with the tenderness
of mortals, who know themselves:
how joyful to feel the heart quake

at the sight of a grandmother,
old friend in the morning light,
beautiful in her blue robe!

- Wendell Berry

Yep... I could see you writing that one.

I wrote to them and they said they "never" have problems with their customer service. Ha! I won't ever be ordering something from them, to be sure. Glad it all turned out.

I'm so glad you finally got your money back, but it's too bad it was such a hassle. And I was happy to help, as were we all.

That was nice of you to update us. Good to hear you have your money back. I might do a post about crummy customer service and I'll reference your posts on it. There are more ways to get back companies in today's connected world. all the best

Ms.A, Isn't if funny how a small thing like a company ignoring pleas to refund money especially for items that did not even leave their warehouse wore me down like this did.

Cricket, the poem is so lovely. It stirs emotions in me and I read it to hubby and we shared feelings and memories with each other. Thank you.

Brian, It was a consistent battle for me. I left so many messages and emails and not one was returned.

Anne, I am so glad it is over.

Gary, Thanks, buddy.

Jerry, I appreciate your kind words.

DJan, You know they are not being honest in their claim to good customer service, thanks for helping.

Bernie, I have to admit I was getting tired of the one sided communications with that company.

I always worry about such experiences so I am cautious about ordering anything online. I don't like to pay for shipping or sales tax either so I don't buy online much. It is encouraging that you finally got your money back.

Cinner, When I finally told hubby what was going on and asked for help I was worn pretty thin.

Jeanie, Thanks. It was something I could not let go. I think this company does this to other people as well.

Syd, Thanks. It was a mental struggle but I stayed with it, whereas in the past if something was this frustrating I would let it go.

heartinsanfrancisco, It was heartening to read so many comments of encouragement and to know my online blog friends were doing what they could to help me. Thank you.

Margie, It is good news, isn't it?

lisleman, It would be a good subject for a post. Maybe some of your readers will have their own ripoff online stories.

Kazzy, I do too, that is why I would have given up on this hassle in the past. It took my belief that this company must be getting away with this with other people for me to keep up with my campaign.

It's great to know that justice can prevail. The net is such a power for good, but can also be used pretty irresponsibly. Good for you not standing for the latter!

I'm so glad that it finally worked out for you.

in response to your comment....YES....bored and restless big time !!!

Yipee! Finally! Justice prevails!

I emailed them (and referenced your order number in the subject line) and I tried explaining to them the power of the blog world, and I received a one line response saying that the company was 'working with this customer to rectify the situation'.

'Happy for you!
All the best,
