This Tag Isn't As Strenuous As Tag- You're It! When I Was A Kid

Jana at The Little Black Book tagged me. If you have been here before, you know how much it warms my heart to interact with other bloggers. Thanks, Jana.

To play this tag game, I have to reveal seven things about myself that are not generally known, and then pass it along to other blogs.

Here are some things about myself that are not known to everyone:

1. I used to own rifles and guns and I was pretty much on target every time. Target practice was done out in the desert during the years the kids and I lived in Nevada. We would line up cans and aim and shoot and have a picnic lunch out there. I think I could have been a cowgirl back in the old western days.

2. There were times I would get so caught up in playing tennis I would play eight hours. There was a wonderful tennis court behind our condo and my kids were either inside with me or if there was a neighborhood tournament going on, they were outside on the bleachers or riding their bikes and they were always within sight of me or my neighbors. I wouldn't play tennis every day for so many hours, but at least once a week if I could find other people to play tennis with I would be there. I kinda know how some people get about playing golf and time goes by and they are so content to play and play.

3. When my kids were quite young, I fell off my bicycle and broke my left elbow. I rode the bike home, fixed dinner, did the usual bedtime things and in the morning I got the two older kids off to school, packed some things for the youngest one and she and I took my car to the hospital for x-rays and sure enough the elbow was broken.

4. Many years after the left elbow was healed, I walked out front of my condo in a totally different state, slipped and fell and broke the right elbow and the left wrist.

5. I have been exercising to a walking tape every day for two months now. My hubby and I exercise together to the tape. We discovered this was better than using the machines with headphones on during the winter months, and we talk together and laugh and it turns out to be more fun than exercising alone.

6. I was never able to do the hula hoop. My kids could do several at once and all sorts of fancy shmancy tricks. Dang. I could never get it to stay up. It twirled around lower and lower and splat! fell on the ground.

7. I have moved at least a hundred times in my life. Lived in that many different houses or apartments. I am tired of moving. When I was a kid, we lived in at least six different places by the time I was nine. That set the pace for the years to follow. I think I should write a post about all the moves some day.

To keep this fun little game going, I will tag some interesting blogs and if the bloggers choose to join the tag game, they will give us seven things to know about them too.

Dave at Big Dave's Blog

Ronda at Ronda's Wonderland

lisleman at A Few Clowns Short

Betty at A Glimpse Into Midlife

Have fun, enjoy the game, and pass it along.

Hi, its good to see you play this as I love discovering new stuff about people. I too like you loved playing with guns and not dolls as a child though I have never owned a real gun or rifle.
Have a great weekend!

Interesting - but I would expect that from you!

Love the "broke my elbow, rode home, sorted the family, solved world hunger.." thing. My wife is like that too. She says she is rarely ill because she hasn't got the time!

OMG, I have never even touched, never mind so much as fired a real gun in my entire life! Wow. Isn't it amazing how you do what has to be done, despite the odds, when you have kids to look out for? My friend did something similar when she shatered her wrist, didn't seek help until the following day - sadly, she has only forty per cent mobility in her left hand now, because of it! As for playing tennis for eight hours - yikes - huge respect!

It's nice to know more about you, even that you were a little bit of a klutz breaking those elbows and wrists! Just kidding, I've broken enough bones to be the pot calling the kettle black!

It was fun learning these things about you. I used to play a lot of tennis, but never eight hours a day. Broken elbows would put a damper on the tennis playing.
I'm pretty good at the hula hoop.

The only bone I have broken is my right wrist. I love that you do a walking tape. I don't even know what that is.

Thanks 4 tag just checked in from road
Agree guns can be fun if safe
Too bad we have too many extremes about it

I didn't have much luck with the hula hoop either. I was too skinny for it to stay put. I used to hunt when I was a kid and would shoot and skin squirrels. My cousin and I would then eat them. I can't imagine doing that now.

These were all totally new for me! Wow, that´s a lot of tennis. You really must love that game.
You should write about your moving. That sounds interesting, but stressful. I´ve lived in the same house for 23 years now. :)
Thanks for tagging me, I´ll play!

I can't hula hoop and I must admit I've never felt that I've missed out on anything major in my life not being able to do it either.

I've never broken a bone in my body or touched a gun! I may look a bit of a thug, but it's all a big front! :D

You and I have that tennis obsession in common. There are lots of tennis courts at our local high schools for outdoor play during the summer. There is also a large court facility on the Park Strip in downtown Anc for outdoor play. There are 2 clubs with indoor courts. Love it!!! and for many years I used Jane Fonda's Walk out! Very good walking tape. xoxoxo PS the massive snow that fell on Wednesday is history. Amazing!!!

The "tag" game is interesting. However recently another blogger who I follow posted an interesting variation, she titled it "A Lie" http://witzl.blogspot.com/2010/03/lie.html

She posted seven statements about herself on her blog; six were truthful, one was a lie. She asked her readers to find which statement was the lie.

My best guess turned out to be wrong, but I enjoyed this exercise and will likely do something similar in my blog in the future. Just an interesting variation on the Tag game, I thought.

"I could never get it to stay up. It twirled around lower and lower and splat! fell on the ground." I'm glad this was in reference to a hula hoop because if the context were different I might be blushing right now.

I always love learning these little tidbits about your life. I was a great hula hooper (and pogo sticker), but I never got very good at tennis. Thanks for sharing!

Wow -- so many things...YOU BROKE BOTH ELBOWS???? Wow!

Tennis for 8 hours - my friend would love you..

Guns - I'm actually going to take my first gun safety class and target shoot to overcome my fear of guns.

Kudos to you to exercise with hubby. It is a great way to spend time together and talk.

It is awesome to get to know you a little bit more! Man you have really broken yourself into pieces, ouch! I LOVED tennis too! I never played much and not good at it but I like it! haha

What a lot of moves! More than me, even, and I've lived in a lot of places. I can't do the hula hoop either. I owned a rifle in NC and used to shoot cans in the woods. I also enjoyed skeet shooting as a child, but don't want anything to do with handguns, which scare me.

Wow, that is so weird! I read this when it first popped up somewhere between midnight and 1 am Californy time early this morning. I left a comment and now it's not here...maybe I didn't do the word verification right or something.

Thanks for the the tag. I used to bowl like you played tennis. I could go all day, day after day:-)

I still have dreams of hula hooping one day. When I started buying toys and learning how to play without fear, a hula hoop was something I bought. Turns out blowing bubbles with a bubble wand is easier. So is colouring in a colouring book. But I haven't given the hula hoop away yet so maybe one day.

You've moved a hundred times!? Why?

Unknown said...

Loved learning these things about you.
You sound so strong ~ outside and inside.

I moved a lot as a child too. It was something I didn't necessarily want for my kids. I'm lucky that things have worked out. I am getting the bug now though. Kind of done the suburbia thing enough.

stay upright from here on okay.
It could affect your typing :)
