Stormy Weather

A truly fine photograph on The Smitten Image caused my brain to relate my life experiences to things of nature. The photo Hilary posted of a summer storm looks like she took the picture in black and white. As she explains in the post "This photo wasn't taken in black and white but the weather seemed to turn everything into monochrome."

I like black and white photos, but in real life, I enjoy colors all around me. I even dream in color, TechnoBabe's technicolor dreams!

When I get in a funk, or not in sync, my perspective is damaged. Things start looking dull, bleak, cloudy, and stormy. A really horrifying inner storm tends to exhaust me. My energy is sapped. As I peer out from under my pouty eyes the colors are gone. At least the happy, sunny vibrant colors are gone. What I see with my eyes while feeling depressed is not true colors because my vision is polluted by the poison within.

Thank goodness this doesn't happen often or last very long anymore. Understanding the things over a lifetime that have caused me to make bad choices has helped me become stronger and happier. There will occasionally be choppy water and storm clouds in life, but it isn't given the power anymore to contaminate my life.

The picture in this post was found on google; be sure to see the gorgeous photo of the stormy weather at the lake on Hilary's blog.

We have two really great pictures (8x10s as a matter of fact) that a guy Mandy was dating when my older grandson was about 1 year, maybe 2 years old and they are super pics. Love 'em. I can appreciate the b&w pics, for sure. But I just thought of this while reading your post that maybe part of my problem adjusting to things right now is that I'm only seeing things in black and white and I need to let the color return to my life's pictures!

I love b&w pictures too but need colors in my daily life...
I wonder why dark colors are in fashion in fall and in summer bright colors.
Isn't it fall when we need colors around our life?!

It is so true. Our mood affects our perception. Perhaps in the final analysis this is a good thing....life is sharper when we are with it.

first..hilary does some amazing things with pics doesnt she...wow. and then you with the thoughts...smiles. iget in that funk as well at times and it is easy to let all the color drain away...without the storm there would be no rainbow htough and there is promise in all that color...

So well put TB! I can relate. Colors lose their vibrancy and become muted when things are not right.

And, I agree about Hillary's photo!

Hilary's shots are amazing! I always thought everyone dreamed in color (I know I do)...now I'll be asking people and doing an informal survey - lol!

I always think those stormy periods, the monochromatic periods in a life, help enhance the colors and vibrancy of life when the storms have passed. And when we think of the major storms we've weathered and survived, it's a real cause for celebration. Lovely post, TechnoBabe.

I generally am a pretty optimistic person, but everyone has those days. And we move through them.

Beautifully put. It's hard to do but during dark times I try to remind myself that like a storm, my horizons darken temporarily and like all clouded emotions, eventually pass by, revealing brighter, clearer days.

A fellow blogger just posted some remarkably beautiful pictures of clouds. Well worth visiting. Quite uplifting, in fact.

It amazes me how black black is when suffering from depression. There is no white nor any shades of grey. It usually passes though and I hope it does for you.

I like your new bog look, I dream in color and love color, have to admit with all the frost, it feels pretty gray here lately. Heres to more vibrant colors ahead for both of us.

Funny, I've just had a cataract done, and everything I'd thought of as black and white is suddeny coloured again - including your picture. Fantastic!

I like rain, but do not enjoy the noise and pomp of stormy weather.

My friend disliked lighting so much, he clung to me in the noisy weather :)

Yay on living the colorful life more often than not! (I get out my Sharpies and doodle up some VisPo -- Visual poetry -- whenever the doldrums set in.)

Thanks for commenting over at Eddie's Sunday roast. :) And I adore Hilary's photos too!

That is such a vivd way to describe your feelings and makes so much sense that I began reflecting. I think that I understand something new about self awareness. The technicolor moods.are better than black and white.
I wonder if we all have those?P.S. I miss hearing from you.

Hugs to you, TechnoBabe. I hope your black and white days are brief. It's so wrong not to see in colour.

Thank you for your kind words and linkage to my blog. I'm so touched that my photo evoked this fine post.

On a humourous aside, Frank had his sons convinced that colour was invented in the 60s and everyone lived in black and white before then. He only had to show them an old movie on TV to prove his claim. Some people aren't satisfied with just the Santa Claus or tooth fairy story. ;)

Hilary is very talented and I enjoy her blog very much.

I know what you mean when "All the colors mixed together-- to gray..." as Dave Matthews says. Those days I make a point of finding the sun and bright colors before I go over to "the dark side".

As always Techno-- you describe "Stormy Weather" beautifully.

Cheers to joyful colors! xo jj

I know from this blog that you are musical or at least moved by music.

So how do the colors change with the music for you?

Mama don't take my Kodachrome away.

Perspective is everything sometimes!

I like the metaphor of that, and I also prefer a more colorful life.

According to the research I've seen, most people dream in color but not all remember that they do Which makes sense since our lives as perceived in color rather than black and white.

Understanding the reasons behind bad choices helps to clear the fog from our minds. Yes, we still expect the rain sometimes but we learn how to play in it. And even if we choose to hang out in bed for a little while during the stormy days, that's okay too. It only becomes problematic when we can't see the sunshine again.

I agree that having colors around you in your daily life does help your moods, colors do so much for us but a black and white picture has a feeling that just seems to take me to a comfortable place.

Hilarys pictures are awesome.

Black and white photography is one of my favorites. It especially works for people and old houses. There will be some stormy weather in life, but I am prepared now more than ever to weather the storms.
