Tired Pussy

This is how I feel after the move. Now I have a cold too. Not whining. Much.

Good thing hubby and I both were in good physical shape for the work of the move.

I have to be truthful. I was crabby and hurt all over and didn't do as well and I wanted to do during the move. It wasn't moving hell though. On a scale of one to ten, ten being a horrible move, this was probably a four most of the time except for the few times I cranked it up to nine. Poor hubby. He could hardly stand up with the sore legs, arms, back, neck. He kept moving one step in front of another just to get it done. I on the other hand, wanted to stand in the street, throw myself onto the top of the moving van, and demand we call 911 for help in unloading the stupid truck. Did I mention we are OLD?

So I stood in the back of the truck and threw some things out of the truck onto the lawn and front porch of the new house. JUST GOTTA GET THE STUFF OUT OF THE TRUCK. We really thought that since we had eliminated about half of our household possessions we would be able to do this move by ourselves. Yeah, we are old but we are strong, we can do this we told each other. Ha. The good thing is how we hung in there together. Nothing was so bad that we forgot the important core of the relationship.

As I read comments on the last posts on the move, I realized I didn't speak about the crabby me and the extreme tired state I got to. The original plan was to get the truck and load most of it the first day and get rest and then finish putting last couple items into the truck in the morning and final clean and head out. The plan changed just before we picked up the truck. So everything was packed into the truck and final cleaning done and then we each drove a vehicle to the new place. I had packed so much into the car I could barely shift into reverse or into fifth gear. The first part of drive was through town, so that meant slowing, stopping at lights, and for me that meant shifting over and over which I usually like. But I was getting leg cramps and my leg was shaking and I was rubbing it until we got out on the highway. Then we got to the new house and started unloading the truck. You see, I was done by that point. I didn't want to do any more. But I also didn't want hubby to do it by himself. So we unloaded enough to get things set up so we could be comfortable and finished unloading early the next morning. Whew. Okay, enough talk about the move. Done.

Now I am not moving again. No way. Not ever.

It is such a big job isn't it. I have to move one more time and hopefully that will be it. (I am having a mover do most of it though) as I am on my own and the move home is almost 3 thousand miles across the country. Only a couple of years and I am home.
I am glad you have finished and I do hope your cold is better. Sounds like you have a wonderful husband....:-) Hugs

Rough, that!
BioFreeze works well for me!

It's good you remembered all the core stuff
of your loving relationship.
So many times, when it gets even slightly bumpy,
people jump ship....
And it's heartbreaking when people who care for each other can't even talk about the slightest - or the biggest- upset.

I know, I feel like if we had to move I would want to hire somebody. We moved five years ago and I was really beat up by it, BAD, and then helped friends move last winter, oh gosh, so tired even from that! But now you are settled, yay!

You know, I have thought about that post and you this week and was just amazed at how you did it! Good for you for persevering and getting it all done. If we ever move again I hope we can afford to hire movers! : ) Moving is SO not my favorite thing.

Moving is the worst. The boring bits of packing, unpacking, loading and unloading are so tedious and tiring. I feel for you.

I hear you! When we moved here from Boulder in 2008, I used Craigslist on line to find someone here in Bellingham to help us unload the truck. I found a family of five who advertised "odd jobs" and I called the number, made arrangements for them to meet us when we arrived, and in less than an hour they had moved all our boxes and furniture into the new place! Of course we put it all the boxes in the middle of the living room, paid them an agreed-upon $100, and we were able to take the U-Haul back the next morning. It took us weeks of unpacking, of course, but we didn't do the heavy lifting!

Well, if you do, make sure to hire movers. Honest to goodness, you will do the the dance of the "Best Money I Ever Spent" after this experience.

Don't feel bad about being tired, and cranky. It's insanely tough work, but at least it is done now. Plus, we ALL get that way. Even Mother Theresa probably wanted to kick someone in the shins on moving day.

When we moved to this house in June '09, Rob, my intrepid beloved, starting making sounds about rounding up friends and doing it ourselves. I informed him that was only going to happen if he could import some alternate universe versions of ourselves because not only was I declaring myself on strike, but our friends would be far more likely to not HATE us the day after the move.

I embrace my limitations and do them to death with cash when need be :-)

I'd hand you a virtual cocktail if I could. You did splendidly, even if you think you didn't. After all, no partners, trees, or household goods were intentionally maimed in the proceedings....and that's enough of a win to call it good :-)

It sounds like you both rose to the occassion and got it done in the best way possible. I've moved enough to sympathize with you. I am glad the worst of it is behind you.

Moving is never easy, but the last time I did it, it went like magic - everything was ship shape an bristol fashion in next to no time. I took it that I was exactly where I was meant to be, and the Universe was on my side.

Jason, as himself said...

Yes. Moving is the WORST! I have made that same statement about moving over and over again.

But this last time I really meant it.

We've lived in our current house longer than we've lived in any other house...since I was a kid.

It's a good thing.

May you get all unpacked and settled and rested soon!

I'm sorry, but I laughed out load over the car shifting bit. Only because I can soooo relate! I drive a manual and enjoy shifting too, but I've gotten in some traffic jams in Los Angeles that lasted hours and know what you mean about how your left leg gets the shakes!

Moving is a job for big burly men! Of course you were crabby but I admire your can-do attitude. Hope you can relax now and give yourself and hubby a lot of well deserved credit.

Moving is stressful and just plain exhausting. It would take a saint not to get crabby when you just wish you could snap your fingers and have everything unload and unpack and settle itself!

Hope your cold is a short-lived one, TechnoBabe! It must be nice to know you're in now and you can take your time really settling in.

Moving is ranked as one of the most stressful life events we can do. Hang in there!

Hilary said...

I haven't moved for over 25 years and I still remember how stressful that time was. It was the last of many moves over the previous decade and I swore I'd never move again. So far I'm making good on that deal. I hope your aches and exhaustion subside soon and that you'll enjoy the best part.. setting up.

Yuck to moving. Now relax and put your feet up and have a nice cup of tea. xoxo

We moved a year ago, after 17 years in the same house. It was a lot of sifting and purging. Since we are renting now, I know there will be another move in the future. Big sigh.

Awesome kitty shot.

Moving! Very stressful! We considered it earlier this year but decided to do the house up instead which was . . . . almost as stressful LOL.
The next move I make will be in a box.

I take my hat off to you and hubby for a job well done.
Thank you, Tecchie, for your very kind comment on Maggie's Re-Roast. Hugs ~ Eddie

I´ve been living in the same house for 24 years, so I can´t feel your pain. But I do hope you recover soon! Sounds like one heck of a job!

I so thought you'd gone all porno with that blog title. Alas, you're just tired. ;-)

Moving is as much mental stress as it is physical. Rest up.

well so far it doesn't appear you got any weird ones coming by because of the title. I'm guessing you would have wished you hired some help. But that's not so easy since you want to trust the help to treat your stuff with care.
Hopefully your muscles and joints are feeling better.

We've moved several times, and it still amazes me that we are still together. Just about the most stressful thing ever.

Mind you we have used a removal company each time! But we still have stuff in cardboard boxes, 7 years after moving in to this house!

I've moved a bazillion times and I hate it. But I know I have at least one move left ahead of me.

I haven't move many times in my life but I never want to do it again! It is so hard! I'm glad you made it through!

I think most major projects (especially house moving)have a "why oh why did we ever start this?" phase.

But you made it!

All's well...

"Never again. No way. Not ever."
We said that after each move. The last one was over 30 years ago, spo perhaps we meant it that time!

Wow. I could feel your pain! Moving is tiring and difficult. Especially when you need to do it all at once. Especially when you try to do it all yourself. But you did it! And you kept the core of your relationship in mind and kept it all together. Good for you!Hope you feel better soon. Hugs to you my dear friend.

I am dreading the thought of moving! Well, actually the thought of moving is exciting to me, the packing and unpacking is what I am dreading! So I can well understand your crabbiness.

'Hope you are feeling better soon!
Do you load up on Vitamin C? I used to 'pooh-pooh' my husband when he suggested it, then I tried it, and it works for me!

Feel good.
All the best,

Moving is so obnoxious, but it does force you to think through all of your stuff. I like that part of it at least.

Your move sounds far better than most of mine, no, ALL of mine. I'm so glad you're settled in and can now arrange things to your heart's content.

Is the kitten pictured yours or just a photo found online, because it's a Maine Coon Cat and looks exactly like my late adored Truffle.

Moving, ugh. Our last move was ok, relatively. (Except for the emergency call to Roto-Rooter that night). We closed on 4/30 but didn't move 'til 6/26. It was close enough that I could go down, do renovations/painting &c. and bring carloads of stuff for almost two months. Sometimes I made 3 trips a day (2 hr. RT).

Even so, the actual move w/truck was still a ton of work. My darling dear and I have a fundamental disagreement on how much stuff is enough stuff.

Personally, I think she watches way too much HGTV. I'd be happy with about half of what we have. Maybe less. Wouldn't the house seem bigger that way? I certainly think so.

Still and all, we're still here. We've made it so far. That counts, too. And you're there. Unpack the essentials and let yourselves rest a bit. Order some take-out and leave the boxes for a day. You've earned it. Enjoy the new pad.

(If I ever won the powerball, I think I'd like a place with one room that was almost empty, maybe just a chair, lamp, and side table to set a book and drink on.)

I completely understand. It's funny, I don't feel old and yet I can't seem to do the things I use to do without huffing and puffing.

I am not a fan of moving, ever.

You are going to get some interesting visitors with that title.

We did most of our move ourselves, and when I say "we" I mean mostly "me". After two weeks of moving crap and aching and fatigue I was just about broken. but our new house had a jacuzzi tub and Nancy filled it and got it running and I plopped into it.... OMG, it was wonderful. It really took all the aches away and I slept like a baby.

The last time I moved I was 46 years old... my body could take it back then. My next move.. I'm gonna pay someone to do it.

Liz Mays said...

Geez, this brings back memories of this move. Since we had a truck and a trailer, the boys did most of the truck and then O and I did the trailer. It was exhausting. Then we had to move everything that needed to go to storage over to storage. I thought I was going to die.

I understand your whining and I forgive you for it. It was necessary. I'm sure of it.

terri said...

You made it. The worst is over. And no one could blame you for being tired and crabby. I would have been!

first....you are NOT old !

and second....."tired pussy" made me laugh hard enough to choke on my tea :)

Moving is indeed a huge fuss. All that personal belongings not belonging at the proper place in a new place.

Glad that was over, right?

And yes, I know you are both old :)

What a wonderful move!

I take the view that there is real life, after the move - a very happy one, even for the "Tired Pussy"!! :)

First of all, love the title of this post...lol..cracks me up...moving is a lot of work and not matter how great 2 people get along, they do get tired and crabby with all that work. I'm glad it's done for you. Reading this makes me second guess my desire to move out to the country but still I would love to and then be done. :)

i'm with you, never gonna move again. glad yours went smoothly enough though. it's no accident that a move is on the top 10 stress factors lists.
