Getting Around In This Little Town

Some housing areas are neighborhoods surrounding golf courses. One time I was interested in purchasing a house that was about three blocks from a golf course. I didn't play golf then and I don't now, but the house was perfect for me to own and rent to a roommate. The interesting thing about that neighborhood was that it was zoned for golf carts. It was not unusual to see people in their golf carts on the public streets running their errands.

Here in this little town there are a few golf carts, but there are more riding lawnmowers and tractors on the streets than cars. The older guys ride their mowers down to the Corner Cafe early in the morning to drink coffee and visit with their men friends. Then they drive back home after an hour or so. When they leave this town to travel to the next town that is much larger, most of the residents drive their SUVs or super size pickups. I think we have the smallest car in town.

Photo found on Google. Main St in our little town looks similar.

When we moved to where we are, we thought it would be much smaller than it has turned out to be. It has gotten much too busy, for my liking. Guess I'm a small town gal, at heart.

I think that would totally catch me off guard when I first saw that, but there's something charming about small town life things like that. :)

Sounds great! I love quirky things like that, and it must make the roads safer too!

Your town sounds like a good location to walk everywhere. I wouldn't mind that, but my area isn't really set up for walkers or bikers outside my own neighborhood. I like the trend we saw in Denver that sprawls out with one neighborhood after another. They have paved routes snaking everywhere around and through all the neighborhoods for walkers and bikers. They don't have to go out on major highways.

i hope your little town doesn't get over run by folks who claim to love its charming ways and then seek to make it change it so it's more like where they came from! (and yes, i'm talking about yankees who move down south!) ;~D xoxoxoxo

We used to live in a small town where the pace was so much slower and so less frenzied. We hope to retire to a place just like it as it suits us more than the zoom-zoom of city life.

I love driving golf carts, I wish I lived somewhere where I could drive one around to go shopping! :-)

My sister lives in a retirement village in Florida and most people get around on golf carts inside. I think I would prefer a bike myself. It must be nice to be in such a small town.

The tractor seems to be a great way to get around, very flashy and macho! :-)

Sounds like a great place. I like little towns. I bet everyone knows everyone there.

I love it!
We recently visited my Aunt in her retirement 'village' and everyone drove golf carts there, and we have relatives that live in a little beach town and they all drive golf carts too, and I love that too!
'Wish I could drive a golf cart on the streets of New York!
All the best,
Eileen

In Alaska there are lots of pickups and SUVs because we spend much of the year on snow/ice. But the roads are very well tended and that is a good thing. I could never have a regular car here. Must have 4WD. There are lots of Chevy Suburbans. I was thinking the other day that is the unofficial "State Car" of AK!

That's a kick! My husband came from a town that used golf carts. Big time fun!

I know what you mean by having the smallest car in town! I'm always glad about it when pulling up to the pump. That's so cool about the guys heading into to the cafe on their mowers to meet up and chat. I wonder what they talk about? I have a theory that when people live in small towns, they tend to be friendlier and behave better towards one another because they are closer, see each other often, and share a common history of happy and sad times.

tractors and lawn mowers - interesting. In the right location I would like to move to a small town. Just watch out for any motorized coolers - could be a wild beer drinker.

I've heard of people even having riding lawnmower races. I saw a YouTube video once I think of a cop pulling over a guy on a riding lawnmower.

That's so cool! We live in one of those golfcart towns. (We don't play golf.)

I would hate to live on a golf course, but love to be able to get around in a golf cart. What's the population in your little town there?

Cheers,

Casey

Love the little snippets of small town life. When I was little, at my grandmother's, the roads were unpaved, you knew the time from the church bells, and the general store was the only game in town.

I don't know if I could live like that anymore, but I'm glad to have been there enough to remember it.

It sounds like it has so much charm.. in a less than traditional way. I can't say I've ever seen anyone getting around via golf cart and for sure not by tractor. How cool.

I used to know people that went to church on their tractor, because they had no car. Small towns where you can drive your tractor around are pretty cool:)

We don't live near a golf course, but two of our neighbors drive golf carts. One of them also has a motorized cooler (no, I'm not kidding--he sits on it and can steer it and everything.) Some people just have too much money...

That is so cool, how sweet is that? And I thought I lived in a sleepy town (grin)..!

I think it is a very cool town, love the uniqueness. Have a great week.

Well. I'm in a busy city so that little town looks quaint to me.

our area of wisconsin is used to tractors on the back roads, too.....but they usually make me mad as they can travel populated roads that back the traffic up horribly....

I think I'd rather see golf carts - those riding lawn mowers are real polluters!

Joanna Jenkins said...

That is priceless! I love the idea of guys jumping on their mowers and tractors to go for coffee. That sounds like the opening scene out of a really god movie :-)

My dad grew up around a small town very much like yours. We loved going there for family reunions!

I saw a guy on a tractor this very day - just driving down the street! Thought of you!

I like those small towns. I can remember in ours when I was growing up, there was a horse pulling a wagon. And the horse would stop on main street. I am not that old either!
