Another New Experience

She passes through quickly
Not ready to view her image
Eyes almost closed

Brush teeth, rinse mouth
Looking downward
Wash face

Eyelids slowly raise
Lights five times 100 watts
Nothing in shadows now

Eyes are the mirrors
When viewed in the mirror
Stand strong, look

After 64 years in hiding
Really looking at myself
is a new experience

Eyes are mirrors - but they also project - images of strength and Love and all kinds of good things!

standing strong is a good thing...and that you can look yourself in the eye...too many would look away...smiles.

The reflection in my mirror is so familiar that I rarely see it unless something has changed overnight, like hair sticking straight up. Love your poem.

oh, keep looking...
keep seeing the beauty

I love this. I am thankful that you are finally looking after all these years of hiding. I hope that now that you are looking you see all the things you haven't seen in yourself. I hope you see all the beauty that all of us see in you. XX Happy Sunday to you and yours.

PS In answer to your question in your comment on my last post. I do have something like you speak of with rice in it and I warm it in the microwave. It's getting kind of old though so have wondered about making one like you described. Thanks for sharing that with me!

You mentioned in your comment on my post that you used to do embroidery work and were thinking of taking it up again. Why don't you? I "learned" sort of, to embroider when I was a child but never really had the patience to work on the stitches and do them correctly. I let that little bit of knowledge lay dormant for many years, only picking up something and doing a project on very rare occasions. But two years ago this past August, I decided (why, I'm not really sure) to play with this craft again and I've found it to be something that actually relaxes me very much. (Except when the thread knots on me. LOL) Why don't you revisit the craft and start on it again? Betcha with your talents, you'd be putting out some really awesome stuff in no time!

I bet you see a beauty in that mirror. Lovely poem and sentiment.

Standing strong - being ready to look into your eyes...a beautiful and touching moment, TechnoBabe. I hope you saw all your strength and beauty reflecting back.

I do look and I see the years. I am grateful that I am still able to mostly stand strong, both in mind and body.

I've come to the conclusion that mirrors show us what they want to show us. The person in front of the mirror sees what they want to see, whether that's good or bad.

We must strip ourselves of the media's ridiculous and impossible notions of what constitutes beauty. I find that one's actions and what one projects is where true beauty is found. You are beautiful and I'm sure you must see it too now that you are looking. Great poem that communicates so much...

good idea. if I just look at my eyes, I won't see all the wrinkles of my 60 years.

God, can you write! I was destined to find your blog today - via Goddess Writes - and I can't tell you how glad I am.

Consider me inspired.

I still have a hard time of looking at myself in the harsh lights of my mirror. I usually do it without my contacts in.

When we really look at ourselves it's sometimes shocking, sometimes scary, sometimes sad and sometimes funny - but it's never boring...

Your writing always makes me think. Thanks for that.

I love your poem, Technobabe. It's a good twist to read about someone who really looks at herself and sees the good. I've never seen you, but I think you're beautiful.

Something to be very proud of. Not only the writing but the new experience. Once something has been seen, it cannot be unseen. The new you is emerging, standing strong!
