Tall, Dark, And Still Handsome

black horse stars sparkle Images
In my bedroom
I wake to see you

Your color is beautiful
Pecan or mahogany tone

You are so strong
Maybe a few nicks

You stand tall and proud
I call you my Old Reliable

Since you entered my life
you have moved with me twelve times

You are still with me
I fill your empty spaces

Some people call you a bureau
Others call you chest of drawers

Thank you for giving my belongings
A special place to relax

Next to where I catch my ZZZZZs.

I have special pieces like that, too!

I have nothing that I drag around with me... except Mec and Max and I'm not sure they count ;)

I have no attachment to furniture as most of ours is so cheap that it falls to pieces every time we move home. I do have special places and objects though, so I understand the sentiment well.

Perhaps you will have an antique one day!

And I thought this was going to be dedicated to Hubby!

I admire people who acknowledge the importance of anything living or non-living.

Who would have thought to make a poem of a chest of drawers. Very original and cute! :)

This was very cute. Furniture do have lots of memories.

I had an old chest of drawers, eight of them in two rows. I loved it, but I gave it up when we moved here, since it was patched and falling apart, and had been moved with me many times. I thought I would miss it a lot, but I only think of it now and then, like now...

Love your poems. I can't believe what you call your husband though! :). Seriously, I just realized what chest of drawers means. I mean it's obvious of course, but I've never thought about it. It's a chest full of drawers.

Cheers,

Casey

I really, really want a new dresser.

Moved with you 12 times? That's a lot, regardless of what you're talking about.

I get misty-eyed when I think about my night stand... especially when I walk into it on my way to the bathroom at 3:00 AM, painfully jamming my leg into it.

First I thought it was your husband, then I thought it was his guitar!

An ode to a piece of furniture you love.... I like it. :)

Love it! I can't think of a single piece of furniture that's followed me for 12 moves. It must be special. Thanks for sharing.

Some things are so special aren't they? I have a 40s waterfall dresser and vanity that I just love. I don't plan on moving them though. I moved into my house when I married and fully intend to die there. God Lord willin'.

I get very attached to bits of furniture. Nothing is of very great value. Just familiar objects.

And I thought 'Ah', she still loves him and shares a bedroom with him after all this time.

And it's a chest of drawers!

I love this one!! Isn't it funny what we get attached to? I lost most everything I loved...funiture wise during and after my divorce..but there are a couple of little things I have been able to hang on to...one is a bitsy bear that hangs onto things..I have had him since I was 21. How many moves..wow uhmmmm 15 maybe! Wow!
Wonderful post hon!
Hugs to you:)

I have a very old vanity dresser which I use to do my make up. It has been in my family for years. I love it so I know how you feel about your chest of drawers...Hugs

I love it! I can picture the pecan/mahogany tones. There's something so special about a solid piece of furniture, especially one that travels with us over the years. It's so good to get back and see you again, Technobabe!

I too, thought this was about your hubby :-)

Well done,

And you say I'm an 'interesting individual'?! :)

I love, LOVE this poem. I'm sentimental, and even name certain pieces of furniture, appliances, blankets and our cars.So I totally get this. When something works hard for you, and is part of your daily life, it's part of the family.

That said, I've never written a poem for any of my furniture...but you may have inspired me.

Love,
Lola

We just inherited my mother-in-law's bedroom furniture. I imagine she had felt the same way about it. :)

Oh, you are rotten. I did NOT think this was about a piece of furniture, at first! And yet, they can sometimes become dear through their beauty, utility and simple familiarity. Sweet.

It might be trendy to downsize, but I also have favorite household items that are like old friends. Great tribute to favorite furniture. Friends of mine have named their cars Fred and Ethel. I haven't named my furniture, but I call a GPS "Airhead".

I love this! An ode to a chest of drawers! You know, I could write something similar, my own bureau having been with me since childhood. Truly, this resonates with me.

That was really beautiful!

I love the photo with the twinkling lights. I laughed at the poem as the object of your affection was revealed.

Ah, I have some furniture I am grateful to like that.
(I call them dressers, by the way.)

That is a great way of describing it. At first I though it was about your hubby!

Eileen said...

Oh, YES! I have a love affair with many of our pieces, and my 'pets' are the ones that we picked up at second-hand shops. Battered, bruised, and perfectly imperfect. A big, beefy teak coffee table with an intricate carved design on the border, all scratched and marred with history. An old chest of drawers that now sits in our front hall and holds our grandson's clothes. Steamer trunks, an old secretary, a bachelor's chest, a pie safe, oak dressers with curved designs (that beautiful old slow-growth oak, not the new quick-grow oak with the big grain) and my most favorite is a big old kitchen sink. All my old treasures.
One man's trash can is this woman's paradise!

Great post!
