Wicked Wicked Sense Of Humor

As requested, I will write the short story about the mouse in the tub.

I was nine years old going on twelve. We had moved many times by that age and each place we lived was rural, never in a city. I grew up around nature. Sitting for hours watching ants work and beginning to understand how strong and industrious they are. I did not destroy animals or their habitats; there was something in me that connected more to the animals and insects than to humans.

For instance, when I was two my mother walked around the building to see me with a branch and I was playing with some black widows. Gently. She tells me that she removed me from the vicinity of my little black play friends and would find me with some more in another place. I played with bugs and crickets and anything that moved. Funny, because when I became an adult I learned to dislike spiders.

Enough of the background. You get the picture. So, when I was nine we lived in a country setting on three and a half acres. My brother and I walked every single inch of that property and found so many things to do there. For me, it was finding pets. Mice were easy for me to catch, I took good care of them and then let them go.

One mouse became a favorite, and I didn't want to let him go. I carried him around in my pocket or sometimes put tissue in the bottom of a bandaid can and he would sit in there. I didn't shut the lid and he didn't run away.

Without going into the relationship I had with my mother, I was not very close to her. I think it would be fair to say that I enjoyed doing things that upset her. Can you imagine having a kid that actually liked to irritate you?

One afternoon I was carrying my little mouse in the bandaid can through the house to my bedroom and I could hear the bath water running. I knew it had to be my mother because my father was not home, again, and my brother was outside. Like Flip Wilson, the devil made me do it! I turned away from the door to my room, marched to the bathroom, threw open the door which in itself startled my mother, and I dumped the mouse into the tub. She screamed and jumped up at the same time. I grabbed my mouse who was swimming around and I took off. I ran and ran. The truth is that I had the picture of my mother standing, nude, screaming, trying to talk, and it was funny. Maybe I was born with a warped sense of humor, but to this day when I bring up that picture, I can laugh. See what a wicked person I am? Now you know the truth.

Note: Mouse photo found on Google.

My middle son used to constantly come up with some critter or another, usually snakes, beetles, crickets and such. Don't recall him ever scaring me, that came later, in the teenage years and no critters were involved.

LMAO! You are hilarious. That mouse pic is cute even tho I am not fond of the little buggers anymore!

Gappy said...

Oh that's funny. Although I don't think I would have been laughing if it had been me in the bath!

That has set me up for the day. I needed that.

Gosh, I loved those metal bandaid boxes. You were a stinker. I bet your mother told this story a time or two herself!

Jeanie said...

"Like Flip Wilson, the devil made me do it!" That devil had a good sense of humor. I'm glad you have this "good" memory of your mother and that it can still make you smile.

Were you able to still keep the mouse?

Oh Techno you ARE wicked. Wicked I tell ya!!

DJan said...

Does your mother still remember this and tell it to anyone? If she's still alive, I'd love to hear what SHE thought of the mouse story! Well told!

Oh my gosh. That's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time. My daughter liked to irritate me. I used to tell myself it wasn't personal. Today, she admits that she did things just to get me. We can laugh about it today. But she never threw a mouse in my tub!

Also, when I was a kid, I used to collect flies I intended to keep as pets. Weird, I know. But there were always so many around the "cat house." I used to think I could train them to do tricks. I guess I thought I'd open a fly circus rather than a flea circus. Though, come to think of it, I could have done that, too. lol

Ms Anthropy, Kids are curious and I think critters are what helps kids find out about living creatures.

Momma Fargo, Glad you got a laugh. I wanted to share the true story with the humorous side.

Hi Gappy, I can understand that you would not have laughed had you been the one in the bath tub.

Dave sir, Glad you read my post early in the day so you could get a good start to your day.

Opaque, Hello friend. You know me, a story with the twisted humor.

Savannah with the cute hair, I do believe you are correct.

Brian, I think it is because you see similar humor in you.

Willow, my mother has laughed about the mouse scare a few times, yes.

Hi Jeanie, I would say this is one of the better memories.

Ina, hello there. Glad you liked the post. I can remember playing with the black widows and other spiders way back then.

Scarlet, I can't picture you playing with grass hoppers. So there was some tomboy in you too?

Mama Zen, yes I kept the mouse a very long time.

ED, you crack me up. You and I should compare wicked stories.

DJan, my mother is indeed still living although many miles away. She has told the story of the mouse in the tub a good many times and she has enjoyed it immensely, but was horrified at the time.

Kathy, hi. I can believe it about your daughter. I can still picture times of deliberately annoying and harassing my mother.

Tracie said...

LOL! Your poor mom!

stinkypaw said...

Funny! I like your humor.

Big Dave T said...

Gawd, and you lived to tell the tale. My wife still has nightmares about the rodents that our kids used to keep as pets.

Unknown said...

The true history of the Wicked Witch of the West. lol

But she is nicer now :)

Jeni said...

I used to accuse all three of my kids of doing things deliberately to irritate me -much of the time. One thing they learned -via their Dad -was that I am afraid of toads. A fear that none of my kids had back then, even the girls. When they found out I was afraid of these little creatures, they took great pleasure in trying to locate any toads and then, bringing them into the house to either place them in a strategic location or even going so far as to throw the darned things on me too! Better that than snakes though I suppose, huh? And I lived to tell about their torture of me too so that's a bonus although at times, when they would scare me with them, I thought I was going into cardiac arrest! Kids!

Unknown said...

HAHA. That sure is a wicked sense of humor. I am scared of mice. Though, that picture looks very cute.
Smiles:)

I think I might have punched you in the face!

Rock Chef said...

Hah, I love it! You were a wicked little girl!

And you clearly have no regrets about doing it too!

Kazzy said...

Yikes! You are wicked to the core! LOL

R. J. said...

My God, you're brave or is it reckless? Mice give me the creeps. Funny story.

Bill Lisleman said...

that is a little too wicked - the bathtub? wow
We used to collect harmless snakes (they did bite but no poison) and drop them in a neighbor's yard. She would scream and then we would get paid to remove them. It was a good gig for a few times.
I think of it as more devious than wicked.

Ronda Laveen said...

What a funny story. You were a little Dr. Doolittle. I was relieved when you picked the mouse up out of the tub before you ran off. I'm sure rescuing him was the last thing on your mother's mind.

Unknown said...

Oh my gosh. I can NOT believe you did that to your Mama! Did she ever forgive you? : )

I freaking LOVE the picture of you at Eddie Blue Lights. I do thank you so kindly for your reference. You made my day.

Hi again.

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I just read your "roast." What a great interview. I wasn't familiar with this blog, so I hadn't seen it. Thanks for letting me know.

And thank you, especially, for your kind words about my blog. You have always been so generous to me and to so many other bloggers. I hope you know your blog has been a great source of inspiration to me. I'm so glad I found you.

Love and big, warm hugs to you, Sis.

Alexandra said...

Oh my gosh... you would've literally killed me.

I have an insane fear of mice.

Unknown said...

loved the band-aid can and Flip Wilson memory jog.

and sadly I never had enough courage to be a little wicked . Maybe that's good for clearing the air a little.

Bernie said...

Oh my.....you were brave, I'm afraid if I had done this to my mom my head would still be rolling around the universe somewhere....LOL
.......:-) Hugs

CiCi said...

Tracie, my mom was used to my sense of humor and adventure.

Stinkypaw, I like yours too.

Big Dave, tell your wife Wendy hi and tell her about my mouse.

Shadowthorne, you are getting nicer the older you get too. Smile.

Hi Jeni, Kids know how to manipulate and get under the skin of parents from birth on. I was no exception. Smile. I like toads though.

Mr Stupid, I bet if you had a chance to play with a little mouse, you would have so much fun.

Kristina, that's why I am glad you weren't my mom. You would be so strict with me. Ha.

Rock Chef, hardly any regrets in my whole life. Accepted consequences and had a hard head.

Kazzy, I told you I was wicked.

R. J. I think I am more in between brave and reckless; some of both.

lisleman, sounds like a good gig to me.I probably would have helped you.

Ronda, I would never hurt an animal. Rescue was my middle name.

Life with Kaishon, glad you read the other blog.

Kathy dear sis, all I can say is ditto.

The Empress, then I would've done a frog or snake instead of a mouse just in your honor.

deb, wicked was how I survived.

Bernie, she had to catch me first. Ha.

Robert the Skeptic said...

See how horribly unromantic I am... all I could think of reading that post was Hantavirus. (The picture was cute, though)

Betty W said...

:) LOL. Your poor mom! I would be screaming my head off too! Mice and me, don´t mix. :)

CiCi said...

Robert, I on the other hand did not think of virus at all. It is a wonder I lived through my youth.

Betty, my mom was screaming and not the first time.

Joanna Jenkins said...

Oh good lord, a tub in the bath tub would have been the end of me!

But I love how you tell a story :-)

Cheers,
jj

Kids never get the better of their parents and you sure did at that moment. Sounds like she deserved it too. I love that story!!!!

I like you loved and still do the world of animals and creatures but not so much the humans. As a child I loved snakes and would carry them in my pocket, I remember going into my house and bringing out the snake to show my mom who absolutely flipped out...I loved animals of all kinds and still do...but like you my wicked sense of humor is still in tact...

thanks for this ab fab post!!!

Oh dear - that IS funny! (But not for your mum.)

I used to find lizards or even just their wiggling tails when they lost them and chase my sisters and mum with them.... Does that make me warped too? ;-)

Casey Freeland said...

First, you are a long way from wicked.

Second, the best part of that story for me personally was remembering the bandaid cans. I loved to put things in those tins. I wish they still made them.

Cheers,

Casey

The Urban Cowboy said...

Oh man that is funny, and twisted! I thought you were going to just let it go into the bathroom...not run in and throw it into the bath. WOW, you're my hero!

CiCi said...

Hi Joanna, I am glad you like the way I tell a story. I just say it like it is, or in this case the way it was.

Blueviolet, you have no idea how it was and in a way my acts of defiance helped me survive.

Gabriella, so glad to know you love all living things as I do.

Mrs 4444, I am still sassy, huh.

Anne, I just got to know the little TechnoBabe in the past couple years. I am liking her.

Sniffles and Smiles, I would have loved having you as a friend growing up. Partly because I would have been around your amazing family.

LadyFi, hooray for you to like the lizards. I would show my grandkids how to play with lizards. I think you must have been a great kid.

Hi Casey, yeah, the bandaid cans held my secret treasures. Tiny shells or small rocks or feathers. I saved all those things.

Urban Cowboy, I didn't do anything in a wimpy way, that's for sure.
