No Two Look Alike

The view from the windows in our little cottage is interesting. Different from any view I have had in the past.

The living room is in the middle of the house; a bedroom on one side and kitchen on the other side. Yes there is an indoor bathroom and there is also a mud room but they are not major rooms.

There is southern exposure in front and northern in back. So far not very different.

When I sit on the couch and look out the picture window facing south there is one type of sky. Today it is fluffy white (very white) clouds with deep blue; in fact the blue and white are wide lines, blue then white then blue then white.

When I turn my head to the right to look out the window facing north I see the back yard. And the sky is nothing like the view out the front. Today it is blackish blue and gray.

Am I just dense or does that sound weird to anyone else? Different sky depending on which direction I look.

Sometimes there is a gorgeous golden glow in the southern sky which makes the huge trees with the green leaves look celestial. And the view in the other direction would have the deep blue and purple and orange sky.

It is gorgeous and I am not complaining. It seems like we are in a movie theater or another world.

Photo found on Google. This is not a photo of a window in our house.

I am guessing that you are on the fringe of 2 different weather systems - I occasionally see it here, where we have nasty weather trying to come down from the North Sea (and the Arctic Circle) and nice weather trying to come up from France to the south.

Sounds wonderful to me! Any chance of a few photos some time to show the contrast?

I've seen that around here on occasion. It's a treat to take in different vantage points. And something of a life lesson, as well. :)

very nice...if you dont like the weather just turn your chair 90 % eh> that kinda funny.

I think this is a perfect example we could use in life. Which direction do we look at, the one with the sunny blue skies or do we look at the dark gray one? Whatever we look at influences how we feel and act.

So if you don't like the view on one side, you can shift your focus to the other side. I like that strategy. ;-)

It sounds like you have found another thing that you really like about your new home. I like the way people are seeing it as a metaphor for life.

Being so close to Bellingham Bay, I see plenty of different skies at the same time, since lots of weather comes in from the west. I think it's cool to have such variety all at the same moment!

I find that the skies are changing all the time, no matter what direction I am looking.

The view out your windows sounds very similar to the views I had yesterday - blue sky and fluffy clouds one way, dark and ominous the other way. Made for an interesting day! Some rain, some sun.

our house faces north and sometimes it looks like you described depending on which side of the house i'm looking out of, north or south. it's due to the trees in our yard and whether the weather is changing and if a front is coming in which is normally from the northwest.

That sounds like a nice view anywhere you look. I live in the trees, I see leaves.

What a cool picture. I wish I had windows like that.

The sky here can look dramatically different depending on which direction you look.

Not strange at all. One day, I was lying on the sofa, my younger came running in.

Dada! You have to see this!

In the front yard, blue skies and sunshine. In the back, black clouds and pouring rain. The rain never passed to the front. The storm front moved sideways over the house 'til it was gone, maybe 15-20 mins. Very odd. I would never have known if he hadn't been home to point it out.

I have no windows in my living room. The only natural light, is light from the sun room in the back. It's like a dungeon. How depressing is that???

It does seem like a movie theater... nice!

Sounds like where I live. Microclimates all over the place.

Sounds kind of prefect to me!
Enjoy the view(s)

I know exactly what you mean...that happens, here, too. I love it! You're lucky that you can just turn in your chair to see all the views. I have to walk from one end of the house to the other!

"...depending on which direction I look." That could have some deep meaning if applied to life. I was just reading some other "childhood" theme posts that Jillsy Girl challenged blogger to post. Childhoods are not simple and while I try to be light and funny sometimes I can't help but notice the dark and sad - depending on which direction I look.

I doesn't seem weird to me. Skywatching has become almost an obsession for me since I took up photography and decided to focus on landscapes. The endless show up above never ceases to amaze, delight, thrill, and yes, surprise me!

I'd like to see photos too.

What's a mud room?

Interesting post. Your own enthusiasm came through in the quality of the writing.

The differing views are not strange at all. We've had clear skies in the back garden and rain in the front more than once. Strange, but neat, too. I often think of windows as picture frames for an ever-changing landscape.

Yes, that has happened to me at times too, I look out the big front windows and it's all sunny and bright, and then I look out the back room windows and the sky looks all gray and like it's ready to open up with floods of rain!
The strangest thing I've ever seen is bright sunshine out front and then hearing a crack of thunder towards the back of the house, and when I opened the back screen door the sun was shining but it was pouring rain! But not one drop out front! It was eerie.

Nice post!
Enjoy all your views!
All the best,
Eileen

I don't think I realized the art of windows until we got all new ones. Now I feel like I live in a gallery. I love it.

We often have different skies in every direction, too, which never fails to fascinate me. I'm so glad you're happy in your new home!

Rock Chef called it. Plus the way your house is situated in relation to the movement of weather patterns and the movement of the sun.

Doesn't matter though. I know that sensation, almost like sitting between two different worlds. It's wonderful.

Cheers,

Casey
