Everything But The Kitchen Sink, But Wait! There Is A Kitchen Sink!

The New York Times sometimes has an unusual story. If you look at the photos of this Cadillac, it looks like a well cared for 1956 Cadillac.

"Step inside and you are confronted with an interior that might leave the celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay at a loss for (four-letter) words. The space once devoted to the front passenger seat is replaced by an array of culinary appliances, including a toaster, refrigerator, hot plate, cutlery holder and, yes, a kitchen sink.

The car, which shows only 1,700 miles on the odometer, wears its original 54-year-old Firestone tires! That would be like me still wearing a pair of shoes I've had 54 years. I guess the comparison would be more accurate if I only walked 1,700 miles.

Trivia Question:
What singer was born Anthony Benedetto?
(Answer will be in next post)

I saw somebody trying to check a kitchen sink into an airport once... it wasn't inside a car tough ;0)

That is hilarious, I have no idea on the singer...so I am guessing Bono

I LOVE old cars! But I can't imagine how the wheels held up that well. The weather must not be extreme and the car was stored well.

I'm guessing Tony Bennett for the singer.

Shadow said...

okay, so this car doesn't drive anymore i take it...

tony benett? (don't know how to spell his surname)

Brian Miller said...

lol. i have heard of people living out of their car...but...

DJan said...

It would have been nice to see how they managed all that inside the car! I also think it must have been Tony Bennett, resisting the impulse to cheat and google it.

What a great old car....or maybe I should call it a camper. I love those old cars and I remember that one. I'm with the rest guessing Tony Bennett.

Tony Bennett .. He is also and artist.. I looked at his pictures in an art book in the library years ago. In the book they said his real name. I guess did not want to sound too Italiano..

Beautiful car..

That is a wonderful red car :)

But why must we cook in one?

Syd said...

It must have been stored in a garage. I can't imagine frying eggs and bacon in that car.

But... why?

Tony Bennett, right?

I saw that article in the Sunday NY Times and was utterly fascinated! The husband and I discussed it over coffee!!

Beautiful, on the outside anyway.

Talk about distracted driving. How can you concentrate on the road when you making breakfast?

Isn't Tony Bennett the singer who is famous for the number, "I Left My Heart in San Francisco?"

Fragrant Liar said...

Why would you put all that kitchen stuff into a car? You can't drive and cook at the same time. Silly people.

Tony Bennett?

I'm showing my age, I think...

Fragrant Liar said...

Happy birthday, btw! Hope it was fabulous.

Did your hubs serenade you with his geetar?

lisleman said...

Ok I didn't notice anyone make the connection between the sink and GM. This last year or so, GM has gone down the drain. Good thing the car didn't have a toilet.
That was a very interesting find - I imagine the designers had a blast working on this special version.

Maggie said...

How did they manage to do all of that? lol

What a cool car!

I have an award for you so stop on over to get it.

terri said...

Why would someone do that to a car? I guess if you want to live in it, maybe...

I'm going to go with Tony Bennett on the trivia question.

Julie said...

Oh, my gosh. That car is awesome!! I love old cars, especially ones that involve food:)

Jeni said...

Well, as the old saying goes, "Great minds run in like channels" and I see several others think as I do that the singer would be Tony Bennett!

Hi, this morning i mentioned you to my son, Alexander. He asked about your name. I said i really don't know what it refers too. He said well he does know that. So he gave me a whole lecture on Techno music, and that i being Dutch should know that, because well fill me in, are we on the right track?
:)i know i didn't talk about kitchensinks and i don't know Anthony Benedetto. Is he Techno?

Tony Bennett? I'm guessing.

Hi E D, I've never seen a sink being carried through an airport. I'd say that is unusual. Times like that would be fun to have a camera handy.

Hi Cinner, Glad you like the odd ball car. Fits well on my odd ball blog. Smile.

I love old cars too, Beth. They seem so much more sturdy. And old. What's not to like if it's old???

Shadow, I believe you are right, the car is only for show.

Yes, Brian, it would be cramped but someone could live in this car.

DJan, I think it would be too distracting to be driving and cooking but the entire kitchen looks like a galley and is where the passenger seat would be.

Jeanie, I think it is part camper and part car. Maybe campcar.

Ms Hen, Yes a pretty cool car. I like the color too.

Shadowthorne,I think the red color is great too. I think the kitchen in the car was meant as a gimmick.

Syd, I think all the kitchen parts worked when the car was built, but some things need work now if someone wanted to actually cook in it.

GypsyFox, yes, you can't beat a big strong Cadillac.

Suldog, yes, very bizarre yet has a beauty maybe because of the make of car.

Margie, did you show your husband this post?

Ronda, I like the cars you have now and I bet it was great when you had the hearse.

Gayle, if you click the link in the post you go to a picture of the inside.

secret agent woman, why indeed. Not many were made with the kitchen so for some reason they made them and a few are still around.

Ina, that is just like my hubby and me, showing each other things of interest and discussing them.

Avy, yes it has been taken care of at least the outside has.

Big Dave, I figure hubby can be driving and I can sit in back and reach over and cook breakfast.

Fragrant Liar, it does seem silly doesn't it? Hubby serenades me often.

Very good, lisleman! Down the drain indeed. Thank you for pointing that out.

Maggie, beats me! For sure was a man who designed it though.

Rock Chef, I think it is a cool car too. Glad you like it.

Just breathe, I received the award and I thank you very much.

terri, I think the oddity was the goal and they did reach the goal.

Julie, my friend, you and think alike!

Jeni, of course you knew it. I am going to get some more difficult questions in the future, you all are way too smart!

TechnoBabe said...

Yo Jozien and Alexander,Techno music is cool but the origin of the name for my blog is much simpler than that. That will make a post in the near future. Glad you both like my blog.

Unknown Mami, odd is in the eye of the beholder. I am odd; the car is unique. Smile.

Hi Kathy, click on the link in the post and see the cool pictures of the inside of the car.
