The Narcissistic Squirrel

There is one squirrel that has adopted our back yard as "his". We have several squirrels that visit our yard every day but this little guy is easy to recognize. He is smaller than all the other squirrels. His coloring is somewhat lighter and his tail is always jerking. He must get his meth somewhere and then come here because he cannot stand still. And he streaks around the back yard like lightening. And his acrobatic prowess far surpasses any of the other squirrels. He can jump higher and climb better and he loves to hang upside down in trees, on top of the house from the rain gutter, even on the table cloth on the outside table. Seriously, this guy isn't going to have a long life, his heart will not be able to take it.

Several times this squirrel has jumped onto the wall at our kitchen window. He must have grown grippers as well as nimble feet because he can hang onto the siding and climb up like Spiderman. His goal is to climb high enough so he can dive onto the homemade bird feeder that hubby made. Remember the micro tray that hubby made into a bird feeder?

I can hear the scratching and climbing from where I sit at my computer in the next room, so I get up and pound on the big kitchen window and shake my finger at him. He deems to look my way and I swear it looks like he is laughing at me because he just continues toward his goal. So I open the back door and yell at him. He will not get down. So I walk out there and tell him to get down. He does but then he jumps into the large pot and tears up the plants and runs far away and stops and looks at me.
I have moved that planter a few times and he will eat anything that starts to grow in it.

Sometimes he will jump down and almost stomp his feet and run into the bushes at the side of the yard and pull and shake the bushes like he is having a truly horrible hissy fit. Then he turns around and runs back and jumps on the wall and I go out and we start all over.

No wonder I am tired.

That would drive me insane! He must be getting a hold of some bad nuts or something. :)

time to get a cage and trap him with some food....then take him for a drive. this is what my hubby has done many a time to get rid of them so the birds can get to their food. and by "taking a drive", i'm not referring to what you may think i am. just relocating them...that's all.

I have four distinct squirrels that come to my front porch, but they now run like crazy when they see me, since I've got my Super Soaker in hand and spray their backsides without mercy. It's only water but with a kick. You need one! It has quite a range.

But this one doesn't sound long for this world. I agree that I'd "take him for a ride" and relocate him.

If you'll take off my hands the five eight-point bucks roaming around my woods, I'll take the squirrel off your hands. They are already getting very aggressive and very horny. The wildlife is great to watch from the windows. It feels like I'm the one in the zoo while they roam free.

I picture him wearing a little superman cape while he is performing his antics all over your yard and defying your scolding.

He's like a naughty child! He frustrates you, but clearly you enjoy him. And he knows it!

Darn squirrels! :) I think they are fun to watch and can be kinda cute. We have lots of squirrels at my house because we have so many big trees. We also have lots and lots of accorns for them. :) The woman I care for has a little black squirrel living in the tree right outside her window. We have watched it since it was a wee little baby. Kinda fun.

A squirrel on meth, eh? LOL! I had to laugh at that because all squirrels to me seem like they are on meth. I know you don't want to hear this, but the squirrel probably does - he is quite a cutie.

We have ten times more squirrels at the city house than the country house. which surprised me no end. It was months out here before I even saw one. I like them. They can be quite bold.

What a little Disney character you have in your yard! We don't notice squirrels too much in our yard. But when they run along the top of the metal fence that borders our yard and the adjoining neighbors it is very entertaining and causes the dogs to bark like mad! And... reading your post below this one, I love to play dominoes too, especially Mexican Train dominoes!

PS and bird feeders in Anchorage are strongly frowned upon because they draw the bears!!!!

I think he would be cute for about the first 5 minutes, and then, not so much.

My kids shoot water guns at the squirrels on our bird feeder. It makes us all happy (except the squirrel).

Nice to meet you!

There are folks who have actually made Squirrel obstacle courses for the little critters to negotiate. They are remarkably cleaver at figuring out and learning how to problem solve the intricacies of obtaining the coveted rewards.

Well, now see, this is what happens when crack is made available to squirrels. Do you realize you're living in a Warner Brothers animated cartoon?

Well the little varmit hey. they are a determined breed for sure. On the farm they sure used to make a mess in the graneries. Maybe this little one is getting some meth..like you said....I don't have any squirrels here at all. always thought I would love one,,,,but I don't need no narcissistic squirrel..let me know how it goes. be well, get some rest.

.... if an animal acts most differently from the rest, be cautious. He might have a disease.

But I hope not for your critter's sake :)

When I worked in a restaurant we had a squirrel that jumped up on the back door. It turned out to be rabid!

I'm particularly fond of squirrels. I love to watch them from my kitchen window. There is a tree in the neighbor's yard, with branches which extend very close to that window, and the squirrels love to eat the buds from that tree. Great to watch them do so.

I don't know how my neighbor feels about it, but I enjoy it.

Look how cute he is. We use to have a pet squirrel that would eat right out of my hand.

We had a persistent cardinal here. He must have been drunk on berries because he was forever flying at the glass of the sunroom. Or maybe he thought it was another cardinal. Or he was just a narcissist and liked his reflection!

What a squirrel that is! Even more acrobatic than ours. We had a family of them in our Mountain Ash in the spring but they outgrew the tree and we wondered where they went. They didn't go far...out to the backyard where they now live in one of the giant Sequoias. One tried to get in an upstairs bedroom window...I think he/she was interested in the air conditioner.
